CHERYL RIX
Director
Cheryl has a Bachelor of Commerce, is a Chartered Accountant and worked for a big five accounting firm in Melbourne before moving to Wentworth with her husband Geoff in 1994.
Since then two horticultural farms have been purchased and developed. Grapes and citrus are now produced for local and export markets.
Cheryl Rix has been the General Manager and Company Secretary at Western Murray Irrigation Limited for five years. This irrigator owned company supplies water from the Murray River to over 400 irrigators. Cheryl has been a member of the critical water planning group for the NSW Murray and the Mildura drought response group and is a current member of the Government Appointed National Irrigation Efficiency Stakeholder Panel and the Mildura Future Water Group.
As part of her Western Murray role Cheryl has also been an active contributor to policy development of the National Irrigators Council and is a member of the irrigation infrastructure operators committee.
Cheryl was the Chair of the Wentworth Community Bank branch of the Bendigo Bank since its inception in 1999 to November 2009 and is now a Director. Cheryl was one of the original "Champions" in the early days of Community Banking and the Wentworth business has grown to contribute in excess of $1.5 million of direct grants to the
Sunraysia community. She is a Bendigo Bank nominated member of the National Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Community Bank Strategic Advisory Board.
Cheryl has also been actively involved on a volunteer basis in her community over a number of years. She was recognised as one of five chosen "inspirational rural women" in the Womens Weekly\Meat and Livestock Australia Competition in 2006. She regularly speaks at conferences and functions about water reform.
She is a graduate and Fellow of the highly regarded Australian Rural Leadership Foundation and completed this program in November 2006. She is also an affiliate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Chartered Secretaries of Australia.
Cheryl has three active school aged girls participating in competitive swimming and basketball.
