Exporting Potential into Asia - 24
February, 2007
Businesses in the Mildura region have the opportunity to showcase
their products in China and Vietnam through participation in
a trade fair delegation in June 2007.
The Sunraysia Mallee Economic
Development Board (SMEDB) has paved the way to Asia by facilitating
delegations to the 2005, 2006 and now the 2007 China Kunming
Import & Export Commodities Fair in Yunnan province.
Previous
delegations to China have included representatives from Sunraysia
Institute of TAFE, the Australian Dried Fruit Association, Australian
Table Grape Association, Nangiloc Colignan Farms, VECSUN Enterprises,
Clyne Foods, Sunbeam Foods and Tandou Wines. The businesses involved
applauded the initiative of SMEDB and the assistance they were
provided to begin and continue trade negotiations.
SMEDB and
Mildura Rural City Council are committed to further developing
trade, cultural and educational ties with Yunnan province in
southern China, including building on the sister city relationship
with Dali. Yunnan province has a population of 44 million and
a large agricultural industry, with many synergies to the Mildura
region.
The China Kunming Import & Export Commodities Fair,
over the five days, attracts over 8,200 exhibitors from more
than 60 countries. The 2006 fair generated US$9.68 hundred million
dollars worth of imports and exports. The Mildura region stand
has received a significant amount of media coverage and trade
interest and has been the sole Australian exhibitor at the fair.
This year, Mildura is entering into a partnership with the Greater
Shepparton City Council and Campaspe Shire Council who will attend
alongside Mildura for the first time.
In addition to the 2007
China Kunming Import & Export Commodities Fair, there is
an opportunity to showcase product at a trade exhibition in Ho
Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This exhibition is an optional extra
to the China delegation and will target supermarkets, airline
caterers and individual distributors in the Vietnamese economy.
All businesses interested in exporting to Asia should consider
this opportunity and obtain further information from the Sunraysia
Mallee Economic Development Board. |
